Hulu has been behind some of the best TV shows ever to air on any TV screen. Every animated series such as Family Guy and South Park, to the classics like Seinfeld, is available on Hulu.
Even some of the newer ones like Brooklyn Nine-Nine caught me by surprise when it first came available. Unlike many other recent shows the humor wasn’t forced, the premise was interesting and not what you would expect from a comedy series.
It is quite rare to come across a show you can so easily get into. Another modern classic is Modern family which has received immense popularity because of its one of a kind documentary type setting.
Then there are more serious shows like Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. There is a lot to watch with some of its originals as well.
As a big Marvel and DC fan myself (Not getting into who’s better and why here as it would triple the word count and we won’t get anything else done), Marvels Runaway’s caught my eye, and I am looking forward to it.
Hulu hasn’t produced many superhero-related shows that I know of, so it will be a nice change of pace.
What is Hulu Plus?
Hulu Plus is the streaming that was started by, you guessed it, Hulu. It was started back in 2007 and is officially partnered with some of the biggest names in the industry like Disney and 21st Century Fox. Meaning any content that is produced by one of the partners of Hulu will be available on Hulu Plus much earlier than other services, this includes Netflix.
Hulu vs Netflix:
Netflix mostly has finished seasons and series, and they might not be watchable the next day even due to the expiration of copyrights.
Furthermore, Netflix America is focused more on Movies rather than TV shows, whereas Hulu is the exact opposite with its library containing mainly great new and old TV shows, animated series and even some for children like the Powerpuff girls.
That’s why I prefer to use Hulu for any ongoing TV shows so I can watch them in the best possible format at the earliest possible time.
How much does it cost?
Hulu subscription costs a flat fee of $7.99 per month. You will have access to their entire library, but there will occasional advertisements and commercials.
By paying $4.00 more, all the advertisements are removed as well if you are fussy about that kind of thing.
There is a third option available as well called Showtime. This one costs $8.99 per month and includes instant access to some original shows and I quote, “exclusive Hollywood blockbusters – all commercial free regardless of your base Hulu plan.”
How to watch Hulu in Australia?
Hulu is not available outside of the US, meaning to get Hulu Australia, we will have to get a little creative (much like accessing HBO in Australia).
Now as you may know, whichever device you are accessing the internet from has its unique IP address. This IP is not changeable by any normal means.
Websites use this address to restrict users access based on their geographical location, that’s why it is also called Geo-blocking.
Hulu like almost all other streaming services uses the IP address of its user to block out anyone outside of the US from using its services.
To change that, we simply need to make Hulu think that we are in the US and not sitting somewhere in the outback.
This can be done by using either a proxy or a VPN.
How does a VPN work?
A VPN and a proxy work the same way, it’s just that a VPN service provider is more secure, safer and stable, hence our main choice out of the two.
A VPN provider has its network of servers; these servers are located all over the world with hundreds of different locations in dozens of countries.
When you connect to a VPN network, all of your data will be rerouted through the server you connected to. It will act as a middleman between you and internet.
Let’s say you want to access Hulu Plus, which is restricted outside of the US. For that, you will simply need to connect to a VPN server inside the US, and then start using their services the normal way. Simple as that.
